Delicious Sourdough Pretzels with a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior, perfect for gatherings or cozy nights at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Coarse salt for topping
  • Cinnamon sugar or parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sourdough starter, flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  2. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 120-240 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the dough into equal pieces and roll each into a long rope. Shape into a pretzel.
  5. Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda. Gently place pretzels in the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle with coarse salt (or cinnamon sugar/parmesan cheese if desired) and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For those watching sugar intake, consider using sugar substitutes like stevia or monk fruit. Keep pretzels in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months.
