A deliciously rich burger featuring juicy beef patties topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese, perfect for any family dinner or barbecue.

  • 1 Tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 Tablespoons salted butter
  • ½ yellow onion (sliced thin)
  • 8 ounces baby bella or white mushrooms (washed and sliced)
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons seasoning salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 Tablespoon canola or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 Tablespoons salted butter to the skillet.
  3. Stir in ½ yellow onion (sliced thin) and cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Add 8 ounces baby bella or white mushrooms (washed and sliced) to the skillet and cook until they are tender and browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Whisk together 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 Tablespoon water, and 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce in a separate bowl.
  6. Pour the mixture over the sautéed mushrooms and onions.
  7. Season with ¼ teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper, then stir to combine and set aside.
  8. Combine in a bowl, 1 pound ground beef with 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 ½ teaspoons seasoning salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.
  9. Form the mixture into four equal patties.
  10. Heat the skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef patties.
  11. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness.
  12. Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  13. Toast the hamburger buns in the same skillet for added flavor.
  14. Assemble your burgers by layering the beef patties topped with mushroom and onion mixture on the bottom bun.
  15. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free hamburger buns. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
