Delightful sweet bread inspired by traditional Mexican conchas, featuring a soft texture and rich cocoa topping.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Combine the milk, butter, egg, and sourdough starter in another bowl.
  3. Mix wet ingredients into dry and knead until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise for 120-240 minutes until doubled.
  5. Divide dough into balls and form flat disks.
  6. Prepare the topping by mixing cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and butter to form a paste; shape into seashells.
  7. Place topping on each disk and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 15-20 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool and serve topped with strawberries.
