A delicious blend of juicy beef patties and grilled pineapple topped with teriyaki sauce, inspired by the flavors of Hawaii.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 pineapple rings (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • 4 slices turkey ham
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced red onion (optional)
  • Mayonnaise (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to simmer. Add the cornstarch slurry, and cook until the sauce thickens—about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Prepare the Beef Patties: In a large bowl, season ground beef with salt and pepper. Gently form into 4 equal patties, slightly wider than your buns. Press a small indent in the center of each to help them cook evenly.
  3. Grill the Pineapple: Heat your grill or grill pan to medium-high. Grill the pineapple slices for about 2 minutes per side, until grill marks appear and the fruit caramelizes slightly. Set aside.
  4. Cook the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred doneness. In the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese and allow it to melt. Lightly grill the turkey ham slices alongside, just enough to heat them through.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: On each toasted bun bottom, layer lettuce, the teriyaki-glazed beef patty with melted cheese, a slice of grilled turkey ham, grilled pineapple, and red onion if using. Drizzle more teriyaki sauce over the top. Spread mayo on the top bun, if desired, and close your masterpiece.

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using ground turkey instead of beef and sugar substitutes for a diabetic-friendly variant.
