A nostalgic dessert featuring sautéed bananas in a buttery rum sauce served over creamy vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup dark rum
  • 2 medium bananas (sliced lengthwise, then cut in quarters)
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium-sized skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar and whisk until it dissolves, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and rum, cooking for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  4. Slice the bananas while the sauce cooks.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and add the bananas to the pan when the mixture begins to bubble. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in walnuts, allowing the mixture to cool slightly to thicken.
  7. Portion ½ cup of vanilla ice cream into 4 dessert bowls.
  8. Divide the bananas foster equally between the bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

Tip: Serve hot for the best experience while the sauce is warm and the ice cream starts to melt slightly.
