Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (for glaze)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  3. Beat the butter and granulated sugar together in a stand mixer for 1 minute until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract.
  5. Mix until fully incorporated, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary.
  6. Add the baking powder and salt to the mixture.
  7. Mix briefly until combined.
  8. Add the flour gradually.
  9. Mix until the dough just comes together.
  10. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough using a cookie scoop.
  11. Drop the dough portions onto the prepared baking sheet.
  12. Roll the dough into balls if thicker cookies are desired.
  13. Bake the cookies for 9–11 minutes until the edges become lightly golden.
  14. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
  15. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack.
  16. Combine the glaze ingredients (butter, sugar, water, and vanilla) in a small saucepan while the cookies bake.
  17. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat.
  18. Stir continuously until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves, avoiding boiling.
  19. Remove the glaze from heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  20. Spoon about one teaspoon of glaze over each warm cookie.
  21. Dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar once the glaze sets.
