  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for fudge sauce)
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Slowly stir in boiling water until well combined (the batter will be thin).
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cocoa powder together in a separate bowl and sprinkle it evenly over the batter.
  7. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the entire dish (do not stir).
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the cake has risen and the fudge sauce is bubbling around the edges.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a diabetic-friendly version, use sugar substitutes like stevia or monk fruit.
