- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), almond milk, and molasses.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- If using, fold in the chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
- For a vegan version, use maple syrup instead of honey.
