Delicious recipe for a nutritious dessert delight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Prepare the crust mixture
In a large bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar (reserve 2 tablespoons for the filling), salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Form the base
Press half of the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create the crust.

  4. Prepare the apple filling
In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, and the reserved 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar until evenly coated.

  5. Assemble the bars
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust layer in the baking dish.

  6. Add the topping
Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture evenly over the apples.

  7. Bake
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  8. Cool and slice
Let the bars cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
