A delightful and comforting plant-based dish featuring crispy tofu coated in a savory garlic sesame sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 block (16 oz) extra firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1/3 cup low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Drain and pat dry the tofu, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the tofu with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce until coated.
  4. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and toss gently to coat evenly, then add breadcrumbs and mix again.
  5. Spread the coated tofu on a lined baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. For the sauce, sauté minced garlic in oil for about 2-3 minutes until lightly browned.
  7. Stir in remaining soy sauce, honey/maple syrup, rice vinegar, and sesame oil; combine well.
  8. Whisk cornstarch with water until smooth; add to the pan and cook until thickened.
  9. Toss baked tofu in the sauce before serving.

Notes

For a diabetes-friendly version, consider using sugar substitutes like stevia or monk fruit.
