Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 2 ½ tbsps (37.5 ml) sugar
  • 2 tbsps (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp (2.5 ml) salt
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup (120 ml) granulated sugar
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Blend granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a medium bowl or paper bag, creating a sweet coating for the churros poppers.
  2. Warm oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Merge water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil in a saucepan, bringing the mixture to a vigorous boil before removing from heat.
  4. Rapidly fold flour into the hot liquid, stirring until a uniform, smooth dough forms.
  5. Shape cooled dough into compact spheres using a spoon or small ice cream scoop and carefully lower them into the hot oil in small batches.
  6. Fry the poppers until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
  7. Extract the fried poppers and coat them generously in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Serve warm, plain or with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce.
